2022 LIFEWORKS CHAMPION FOR CHANGE
We are honored to celebrate our fourth annual Champion for Change honoree Magali Telles!
This award is given to leaders who have positively affected the lives of children, youth, families, and communities in Sonoma County. Champions have helped pave the pathways to provide access to mental health services, community resources and to address trauma and community needs in an inclusive, thoughtful, and creative use of resources in our community. Champions have adapted resources to local needs and extended capabilities to achieve insights, more evidence-based practices, and policies to the needs of our community.
Magali was born in Michoacán, Mexico and was raised in Fresno, California. She was the first in her family to attend a four-year university and received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology and her Master's degree in Education from Sonoma State University. For close to 18 years, Magali assisted students and their families with resources in the college readiness and admissions process on a local and statewide level, with special focus on Latino families. She also founded the Latino Family Educational Summit at Sonoma State University, a week-long virtual event filled with workshops for parents, middle school and high school students. In 2018, she became the first Executive Director for the largest Latino Leadership organization in Sonoma County, Los Cien, a Petaluma-based group that builds bridges with the Latino community in Sonoma County. In 2019, she was named as one of North Bay Business Journal's 2019 Forty Under 40. Magali is currently the Director of Community Engagement for the City of Santa Rosa, focused on strengthening community relationships.
