El Puente (The Bridge)
A prevention/ intervention program offering at-risk and gang-affiliated youth an alternative structure to support a healthy transition to adulthood, and to replace the stunted rite of passage offered by gangs. El Puente offers interpersonal and vocational skills that are crucial to individual success, in an emotionally and physically safe environment emphasizing enduring positive relationships. El Puente’s adult mentors model long-term personal commitment, making it possible for wary, guarded children of dysfunctional homes to establish and deepen trust. Through consistent modeling, El Puente assists youth to develop a lifelong relationship with the community that will help them discover their own value through giving back.
